A 1920′s trade
Lucky me to be writing a 1920′s saga. Though not literally a lengthy trawl through the years, but as my agent requested, a shorter, nuts and bolts story with tension! And I’m happy to oblige, since my current book is influenced by some of our most well known celebrities. Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman are beautiful, dazzling women whose natural style is to wear slimming and elegant outfits that flatter their already spectacular figures. In the right dress a woman can attract a man from across a crowded room, given a little help with the hairstyle, jewellery and shoes. Coco Chanel knew all this back in the 20’s when celebrity had just taken off, balancing on the birth of the talkies. Like an unzipped cocktail gown, revealing the sexual chemistry beneath – so I’m told by a local dress designer who specializes in Art Deco fashion. I love the Flapper styles and the cheeky bows and dropped waists, so I’ve sported out on a very special dress that I can wear when I write – the feel of the satin, the clink of the long beads and the bar-strap shoes fly me back to the era I’m writing and I don’t begrudge a penny for the trade!
