This is a wonderful picture of Lillie Langtry (October 13, 1853 – February 12, 1929), usually spelled Lily Langtry. This beauty was born Emilie Charlotte Le Breton. Her rise to fame came when she began her music hall and acting career. Some of her many stage productions were She Stoops to Conquer, The Lady of Lyons and As You Like It. She was also known (if not famed) for her friendships with Albert the Prince of Wales, the Earl of Shrewsbury and Prince Louis of Battenberg. This beautiful and enigmatic artiste would have rivalled any of today’s celebrity and when I researched for my next book, A SISTER’S SHAME, with its theme of theatre and celebrity, Lily drew my interest immediately. I write feisty, gutsy, independent heroines and Lily meets all this criteria. Just look at her stunning photogenic qualities! She knew how to WOW the camera and her public. The First Lady of the early social medias, had to be Lily when secrets and hot gossip, slid effortlessly from between the silken sheets!
